-GREEN BUILDING-
At R. LECLERC ENTERPRISES INC. we seize every opportunity to ensure our operations are functioning in a environmentally responsibly way and minimizing all ongoing projects environmental impact. We view it is our duty within the relationship to inform our clients of new earth friendly building materials, building techniques or design options that can be utilized to further minimize the projects footprint and maximize the home's energy efficiency today and into the future. L.E.E.D's (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design),is the world's most widely used green building rating system, who created their definition of GREEN BUILDING as: "a holistic concept that starts with the understanding that the built environment can have profound effects, both positive and negative, on the natural environment, as well as the people who inhabit the buildings every day. Green building is an effort to amplify the positive and mitigate the negative of though proven effects throughout the entire life cycle of a building. While there are many different definitions of green building out there, it is generally accepted as the planning, design, construction, and operations of buildings with several central, foremost considerations: energy use, water use, indoor environmental quality, material selection and the building's effects on its site." --HOW DOES GREEN BUILDING BENEFIT YOU?--
A: Financial Benefits:
1. Between 2015 and 2018 going green with L.E.E.D certified buildings have reportedly saved the United States a total of $1.2 billion in estimated energy savings, with $149.5 million in water savings, $715.2 million in maintenance savings and $54.2 million in waste savings.
2. Not only does green building save the country $$$, in certain locations it is expected to increase your home value by 4%! And with the energy savings from the green built homes, the costs to build green are usually expected to pay for themselves within seven years.
3. Not only does the sustainable and durable materials save money through less replacement costs, some states offer tax rebates for living in a green house.
4. In some United States markets installing installing solar photovoltaics on your house can actually increase your income.
5. In Portland a study of home sales comparing traditionally built homes vs. certified green homes found that the certified homes sold for a 3-5% premium.
6. "Green homes have well-insulated ceilings, walls and energy efficient lighting. Factors such as weather stripping, energy efficient light bulbs (LEDs or high-efficiency fluorescent's), vampire loads, efficient thermostats, high-efficiency water heaters and HVAC systems, and low-flow water fixtures can add up to as much as $2,000 in savings per year."
B: Environmental Benefits:
1. Many of the materials are recyclable and durable thus reducing material production needs and production pollutants. Reliance and overuse of fossil fuels are also minimized through energy efficiency homes that require less energy to cool, heat, illuminate and operate. Along with lowering construction waste, green building also lowers the use of potable water. Projects like Google's Project Sunroof can help you calculate your savings through using solar panels alone, as well as educate about loan options, financing and installation.
2. Buildings use about 14% of all potable water (15 trillion gallons per year), but with green buildings efforts, green buildings are supposed to see a 15% reduction in total water usage as well as save more than 10% in operating costs. By only retrofitting one out of every 100 American households we would see the equivalent of removing 15,000 cars from the road therefore avoiding 80,000 tons of greenhouse gases.
3. By 2030 green buildings are expected to have diverted 540 tons of waste from landfills.
4. By participating in the green building movement you will be contributing to the growing need of energy conservation in order for our population to enjoy all of the outdoor activities our area has to offer as well as contributing to future generation's enjoyment of them. Even more imperative, you will be contributing towards our species survival and the survival of future generations.
C: Market and Trends
1. The green building sector is building at a faster pace than other construction and appears to still be growing at a rising pace. In 2018 building green will be responsible for $75.6 billion in wages from the 1.1 million jobs created in the United States.
2. Higher quality was cited as the key reason why 90% of builders choose to build green.
3. Roughly 2.2 million square feet per day receive L.E.E.D certifications world-wide every day.
D: Health Benefits:
1. Due to the less toxic materials used during home construction, decreased amounts of toxins are emitted into the air. With fossil fuel combustion being responsible for over 90% of greenhouse gas emissions other air pollutants are being released into the air during regular construction.
